Mission-briefing-debriefing

GM notes:

Mission design:

  • Context is king: Make sure the team knows why they are doing something.
  • Have a primary and secondary objective, make sure that every pilot can contribute to the outcome.
  • Have clear criteria for success/failure
  • Make sure players understand the mission.
  • Make sure the enemy winning won't derail the whole campaign, have an emergency door out.

During missions:

Have the enemy fly their own missions, they don't exist to be blown up.
Give enemy combatants personalities

Debriefing:

Try to answer the following questions
1- What do you expect from this mission?
2- What are you hoping to accomplish?
3- What was the most difficult situation?
4- What should be highlighted as a win?
5- Did you give it your all?
6- Where could you have done more?
7- How should we move forward out of this?

A little reminder:
A GM sets the broad story, for instance a heist. The players set the soundtrack. For a heist, it could be Pink Panther, Mission Impossible or Benny Hill. It often becomes the last option.
