Summary: Pilots relax over breakfast occur before an alert drags the pilots to a briefing
Date: 2659.263
Related Logs: Medbay Interrogation
Participants: Singh Ona Cyric Silence Kanani

Singh walks into the canteen, taking a bowl of 50% oatmeal, 50% syrup.

Jamie's there, already wearing his flight suit, though it's zipped down to the waist. He's already eaten his ration of good food this week, so he's picking at an MRE. He nods over toward Julianna when he spots her.

Singh looks at Jamie and stifles a grimace. She smiles and pats on the chair next to hers.

Ona is eating some cornflakes.

Julianna looks at Jaqueline and pushes the chair in front of her to an open position.

Looking worn out like so many of the rest of the crew, Jamie huffs as he pushes up to his feet and carries his plate over. "Hey. Is this the popular kids' table?" He asks, slumping down there instead.

"I don't see any kids here", Ona says, "I see a bunch of old people."

"No, it isn't, I'm here." Julianna answers "We're the survivors though. I like that table more."

Karen pops her head up… not many people over 30 here… Meat Grinder in the corner chugging a protein shake, Seelig and some older techs, but not many older active pilots.

Jamie doesn't make the comment that probably most of them think at one point or another; that there's a very good reason why there aren't many front-line combat pilots who are over thirty.

Kanani wanders her way into the canteen, heading first to the bar to get some coffee or some other morning drink, then heads over to the table and sits down with a nod, "How's it going so far today?"

"Same old." Julianna answers "… Medbay is closed… Just when I have an appointment." she mutters.

"I've been reading some intelligence documents. Also, there's a new training film to watch later." Ona says.

Jamie asides to Ona, "Speak for yourself, anyway." He manages to finish about half of the 'chicken' that came in the MRE before he leans back and mentions, "No trainin' films for me today. I'm flying later."

Kanani nods at that, "Yeah, nasty business that. Hear two guards were nearly killed in whatever happened there."

Julianna looks nervously at her quine. "Yeah, we got a flight soonish."

"Another one?" Ona says, "When are we going to get a fr***ing break?"

Julianna looks surprised at Kanani. "What happened? I just got a postponed appointment."

Leaning forward and resting his elbow on the table and his chin in his palm, the blonde (Jamie), replies to Ona, "Probably not 'till we get to Perry. I don't know what friendly forces we got between here and there, but… probably nothin' like the Majestic."

Shaking her head, Kanani hmms, "Not sure honestly. Just some gunfire and calls for guards and doctors. Scuttlebutt is that one of the Doc's was pretty pissed off after it all, too.

All the pilots’ quines notify them of a message.

Ona looks down at her message.

Attention pilots: The following is classified as 'SECRET'

We've interrogated the prisoner recovered in the following information:

* The church of man, as most religions is facing a schism
* Both factions agree that technology is bad. They disagree on what technology is.
* First faction : the neo orthodox church defines tech as all that can change the environment.
* Second faction : the sacrosanct path include social constructs as technology
* He has been abducted 8 months ago from Victoria (city - Regency).
* He was told he was to be exchanged to the kilrathi along with the other prisoner in the Marmaris (The other Tarsus) for good will towards trading for fighters.
* The fighters are to be used to fight the Sacrosanct Path. As they are less against hardware technology, they have a shipyard making their own design fighters.
* They are also negotiating with the kilrathi.
* They both want Xytani, a system of limited resources and will give the kilrathi free access to rygannon in exchange for it. They will maintain it.

We will put a stop to this now before it becomes a real problem. It would be in our interest to squash all retro presence here, but the sacrosanct path is the more dangerous of the pair and should be prioritized.

Jamie pulls his out, opens the message, then reads it. He frowns and rolls his eyes. "Hell. Y'know, it used to be that conflict would unite humanity against a common enemy, but I frickin' hate Retros."

"Well, at least they should be easier than the Kilrathi." Ona says.

Karen gulps… "I don't like having to fight people… But maybe we can reason with them…"

Karen looks back down at her bowl. "Probably not."

"We can negotiate using Mr. Torpedo and Mrs. Dumb Fire." Ona says.

Kanani chuckles at Jamie's comment and remarks wryly, "I’m not sure that conflict ever has really united humanity. It's just written out that way in history books after the fact by the winners."

Julianna smiles. "Cyric's getting married?"

"You know, that old adage about history being written by the winners isn't really true." Ona says. "Most of the stuff about the Vikings was written by their victims."

Kanani adds to Karen, with a shake of her head, "Not likely. I think you'd have more luck reasoning with the cats than the retros."

Ona is wondering when they're going to get called for a briefing.

Jamie shrugs at Kanani, then replies with perhaps surprising cynicism, "I'm not gonna get into a big debate about it, but I know that if impending genocide ain't gonna convince them to fight the cats, they aren't worth having in the gene pool."

"Smugglers are so much easier." Karen sees Karde and nods at the before last empty chair.

Cyric enters the cantina sees the group and comes over with a sly almost curious look at his face and sits down. "I agree with that. So, guys when are we going to crush some traitor skulls?"

"We're not going to be engaging in any skull crushing, Cyric. We may engage some retros." Ona says.

Karen grimaces and continues eating her bowl of syrup.

Glancing back toward Cyric, Jamie smirks. "I dunno. If I had the chance…"

"It would be messy. You'd have to remove the brain first." Ona says.

Karen then sees Jamie's MRE… "You know Jamie, I have a few extra creds… I'll trade you your 'fruit' bar for a stack of pancakes." Pointing at her dish. She is trying not to listen to brain smashing while eating breakfast.

Cyric notes Karen staring at her bowl of syrup with a quizzical look on his face before turning back to Ona. "Fair. So, three-point patrols to reconnoiter followed up with a strike mission. How long do you think the Men and Women in Black are going to keep us here looking for their secret base?"

"How long is a piece of string?" Ona responds.

"A Gordian Knot's worth." Cyric answers confidently. "Count on it. That is just the way it is for us. Over 3 weeks wasting away in Rygannon and the galaxy goes to the barbarians in a trojan basket."

Jamie slides the fruit bar toward Julianna. "S'fine. Don't need pancakes. If I load up on carbs before I fly, I'll probably fall asleep on autopilot," he quips, apparently finding the subject of skull crushing an easy one to switch away from.

Julianna pockets the bar still in the wrapper and wraps her pancakes for later consumption. "Ok, thanks, but I owe you something sweet then," She says.

Jamie pushes up from his chair and stretches out. "I'll take you up on that during shore leave."

"Noted. Megan has some bits on food before flying anyway." Ona says.

"Where would you like to go on shore leave in Gemini?" Cyric asks Jamie and the gang. "It’s not exactly famed for its tourist resorts."

Julianna tries to hide a big goofy smile at the thought of shore leave.

"Surfing." Ona says.

Jamie shrugs his shoulders. "Any place that's not a carrier," he replies. "Never been on any planet before, other'n Helen."

"There was that museum tour in oxford." Julianna adds.

Jamie pauses, then adds, "Don't think those turret bombing runs in Rygannon counted.
